What a Difference 3 Years Makes!

I thought it might be fun to share a little IN Photography history with you. When we opened our portrait studio 3 years ago in Lake Havasu City, AZ we had no intentions of shooting weddings. Our doors had not been open for even a month and on a Wednesday a girl walked in and asked if we could photograph her wedding on that Saturday. We needed all the work we could get so we agreed.

The only knowledge we had about shooting weddings was from our experience at family and friends weddings and the single worksheet that one of our instructors gave us while in school. (Wedding photography was “frowned upon” at our school). We practically packed up the entire studio for this little wedding. We did it the way we thought it was supposed to be done and we absolutely hated it.

We were later approached by a family friend and asked to photograph her daughter’s wedding. We agreed as long as we could skip the traditional stuff and try shooting the way we wanted to shoot. We had an absolute blast and the photos turned out awesome! To Mark and I’s surprise, that wedding led us to where we are now, running a business primarily photographing weddings. The best part is, we LOVE what we do!

It’s been a lot of fun to watch the business evolve over the last three years. I don’t think I could find two better photos to represent this evolution than these:

Our very first wedding…

And a much more “IN” group shot. Fun, relaxed and most importantly, a real moment!

Stay tuned…it’s going to get even better over the next three years!

Rachel & Joe

Last week we headed down to Colorado Springs for Rachel & Joe’s wedding at the Air Force Academy. The chapel at the Academy is one of the most amazing I’ve ever seen. A beautiful, intimate garden reception followed the ceremony.

They chose to see each other before the ceremony. Their first sight was so sweet.

Dogs!

In the spirit of our love for dogs we’ve begun volunteering at the Intermountain Humane Society in Pine Junction. We try to get over there at least once a week to take the dogs out for some well-deserved exercise. Since these dogs can use all the exposure they can get, we’ll be making regular posts to show off whose up for adoption. If you are ever interested in more information call Sheri @ 303.838.2668.

Meadow Creek Bed & Breakfast

Last week we spent an afternoon at Meadow Creek Bed & Breakfast in Pine shooting some photos of the property for the owner. The setting at Meadow Creek is absolutely beautiful. For anyone looking to get married in a peaceful mountain setting with easy access to Denver you should definitely check this place out! We’re looking forward to shooting weddings there in the future.

Rocky Mountain National Park

Today we took Mark’s parents up to Rocky Mountain National Park.  The harsh effects of the pine beetle is hard to bare on the west side but luckily it got better once we got deeper into the park.  I had only been through the park once before and had forgotten just how beautiful it is.  Here are some shots from our day.

A Perfect Summer Weekend

We had a great weekend off this weekend. Mark’s parents came into town from Iowa on Saturday and quickly adapted to our laid back lifestyle which is what we love to see! As for the deer, Mark discovered Friday afternoon that there were actually two baby fawn in our yard. This morning was the first time we got to see them run around and play. They spend most of the day curled up and hidden in our tall grass. Here are some fun photos of our relaxing weekend.

They didn’t stay out for long this morning but Mark managed to snap this quick shot.

Here’s mom, she makes an appearance every now and then in the yard and then disappears for awhile.

Mark woke up early this morning to watch the fawn play, we later found him here.

I’m telling you, these hammocks are irresistible. Here’s Mark’s parents enjoying the afternoon sun.

I’ve must give props to Cozmo. This dog loves his yard but is only allowed outside to go to the bathroom right now while the deer are here. He’s still happy as can be stuck in the house while we’re outside grilling.

Check back often this month as we have tons of stuff going on! New weddings, our new art prints, new products, as well as tons of hikes and adventures whenever we can find the time! Hope everyone had a great weekend!
