Kacie & Kurt, from Philadelphia, had been traveling since 4am. Their engagement portrait session was scheduled to take place at 6:30pm in Beaver Creek. After sitting in construction traffic for an hour and a half we arrived in just the nick of time. As we pulled into our parking space, my phone rang, it was Kacie. They were running a little late from their appointment in Breckenridge and said they would be about 15 minutes late. They knew nothing about the construction mess on I-70. There was no way they would make it to Beaver Creek before dark. I asked them exactly where they were on I-70, they had just reached the Vail Pass summit. Perfect! The Vail rest area was right there. I instructed them to stop at the rest area and we would be right there. I could only imagine what Kacie was thinking when I told her we would do the shoot at the rest area. For those of you that don’t know, the Vail rest area is probably one of the most scenic rest areas in the country. Kacie & Kurt quickly learned this. We immediately left Beaver Creek and made our way back up the pass. As soon as we showed up, it was obvious that the afternoon was quite serendipitous. Adjacent to the rest area was a dirt road leading to, well, nowhere. Perfect! The weather was perfect, the light was perfect and Kacie & Kurt were stoked to be there. We had never met before so I was relieved that my impromptu plan worked or they may have questioned their decision to book us! Instead we hit it off immediately and had an absolute blast with them. I wish they didn’t live so far away! So, without further ado, Kacie & Kurt’s impromptu Vail engagement portrait session…
Kurt actually suggested this shot. I LOVE it when a groom makes a suggestion. It means they’re having a good time!
Kacie & Kurt will be tying the knot at the brand new Beaver Creek Wedding Deck next summer. After getting to know these two it’s no secret that their wedding is going to be AMAZING! We wish it was sooner. We can’t wait!

It’s couples like Kacie & Kurt that make me feel silly for calling this a job. We had never met them before and yet it just felt like an afternoon hanging out with old friends!
