Ireland Day 4: Seaside Cattle & The Cliffs of Moher

Our fourth day in Ireland took us north into County Clare and the quaint beach towns of Lahinch and Doolin.  Probably the least touristy towns and therefore my favorites of our entire trip.  What we had seen so far was gorgeous but definitely a tourist mecca and therefore not our cup of tea.  So far Ireland was much rockier than I had imagined so I was delighted by the expanse of rolling green hills when we pulled off the ferry after crossing the Shanon River.  I absolutely loved the pristine coastline property that, unlike here in the states, there were not million dollar mansions but modest homes and cattle in every yard.  A cow’s life in Ireland is not bad.  They have quite the view.  I have to hand it to the Irish too.  Grocery stores were rare (I think I saw two in eight days) and instead it appeared as if everyone raised their own cattle and grew their own gardens.  It was inspiring to try and be a little more self-sustaining.  On our way to Doolin we were tempted to drive right on past the Cliffs of Moher  since I read that they were one of Ireland’s biggest tourist traps but wow am I glad we decided to stop. I don’t know if it was the fact that the rain had finally broke after an all day downpour or that I got an adrenaline rush from the idea of falling to my death with one wrong step but the Cliffs ended up being one of my top two favorite things about our trip to Ireland.   Check it out! The Boulton Family

You may recognize Kim & Rich.  This isn’t their first time on the blog or their second.  In 2009 we photographed their Evergreen wedding and immediately after became close friends.  Although it’s only been two years, I feel like we’ve known them forever and am so grateful to call them friends.  In April Kim called to tell me that her and Rich were expecting.  I was not at all surprised since they have been eager to start a family, however I was shocked when she told me that she was expecting twins!  Continue reading ‘The Boulton Family’

Steamboat Springs Wedding Photographer: Teresa & Brett

It makes me very happy to live only an hour away from Steamboat Springs.  However, one day I will sell my car (unless I’ve found and purchased the perfect VW camper), move to Steamboat and commute by bike.  To me, Steamboat is the perfect mountain town.  So…in the meantime,  I will be there in a flash whenever I have the chance which means bring on the Steamboat weddings!  I’m ecstatic for Teresa & Brett’s Steamboat wedding at Catamount Ranch next summer and got a little taste of just how much fun these two have together at their engagement portrait session last month.  Check it out! Ireland Days 2 & 3: Sheep, Waterfalls & Learning to drive all over again

I would say the single best piece of advice we got before leaving for Ireland was to rent the smallest car possible.  To say the roads in Ireland are narrow is an understatement and that’s just the beginning.  No guard rails, no signs warning of hair pin turns, roads that look like someone’s driveway but have an 80 kilometer per hour speed limit (50mph), add to that driving on the left side of the road and the right side of the car, oh and don’t forget to shift with your left hand.  This may sound like a nightmare to some but to us was half the fun of our trip.  Continue reading ‘Ireland Days 2 & 3: Sheep, Waterfalls & Learning to drive all over again’

Ireland Day One: Castles, Jet Lag & Irish Hospitality

Last week we returned from an eight day, whirlwind trip across Ireland.  It was our first trip overseas and we had an amazing time.  I have so many photos I want to share so I’m going to start from the top with our first day in and around Kilkenny.  After 23 hours of traveling (and only a couple hours of sleep) we arrived in Dublin at 7am, got in our tiny car and headed straight for the countryside.  We found the most incredible B&B, Lawcus Farm Guest House, for our first night.  Ann-Marie & Mark were the most gracious hosts and made us feel at home the moment we arrived.  Although there was an entire country to be seen, I think we could have been just as happy spending the entire week at Lawcus.  Check it out!  Continue reading ‘Ireland Day One: Castles, Jet Lag & Irish Hospitality’
