On day five of our road trip we woke up to rain which got our morning off to a quick start given the road we were on could easily become difficult to travel if muddy.  By 9am we were on our way to Meeker to restock a few supplies and return e-mail and voice-mails.  Meeker couldn’t have been more charming with it’s Meeker Hotel & Cafe, soda shop/drug store and video rental shop with shelves lined with VHS tapes.  I felt as though we had taken a step back in time and was completely smitten with the place.  Around noon we wrapped up our chores and armed with two shiny new maps headed down a remote dirt road along the Grand Hogback towards Rifle.  Our attempt to camp on BLM land was a bust so we decided to give White River National Forest a shot.  Right away we didn’t find any dispersed camping opportunities but were impressed by nearby Rifle Mountain Park and were ready to call it a day.  Once again we were camped out under the trees alongside a beautiful stream.  We spent the afternoon reorganizing and cleaning the camper, taking a stroll and planning the next day’s adventure.

Stay tuned for Day 6 and our adventures on Coffee Pot Road.  My favorite part of the trip!
