Couples like Mia & Greg are the reason I feel like I have one of the greatest jobs in the world. I was smitten by them the moment we met. It was a perfect spring day in May at Perry Mansfield in Steamboat. They were set to wed here in August and as they showed us around the property we realized this would be unlike any wedding we’d photographed at Perry Mansfield before. This place wasn’t just the setting for their wedding but it was where their entire love story began. It’s where they met, fell in love, got engaged and now would begin the rest of their lives together. As we spoke about details, logistics and timing, Mia & Greg were completely unphased by it all, like all the little nuances of a wedding didn’t apply to them. And then I learned that that was exactly the case. Mia explained that around 11:30am on August 10th her and Greg would wed in the aspen grove. After they’ve said “I Do” they will share an afternoon picnic with their friends and family. It was as simple as that. There would be no wedding coordinator, no florist, no DJ, no caterer, no baker. We, as it turned out, would be the only vendor on the premises. Mia said to me “We want our day to be more about the marriage than the wedding” and my heart melted.
We showed up that Sunday morning and I was overcome with honor to have been chosen to document this simple, understated yet immensely beautiful union between two people deeply in love. Mia & Greg radiated joy the entire day and their wedding was a true labor of love.
These are some of my favorite moments that we captured for them on their first day of marriage…
A very special thank you to Mia, Greg and their families for letting us in to their lives for this incredible day!
