We hope you enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving and holiday weekend! I’m excited to kick off the week with Sarah & Zak’s extraordinary fall wedding at the one-and-only Perry Mansfield in Steamboat. With not one but two stunning aspen groves, rustic cabins, sprawling meadows and the privacy of having the entire property to yourselves, Perry Mansfield is unlike any other Colorado wedding venue. We love this unique location any time of year but fall is where it’s at. I can’t think of a better place to exchange vows than in the middle of a golden aspen grove and I believe Sarah & Zak would agree. My very first phone conversation with Sarah felt as though I’d reconnected with an old friend. We hit it off immediately and I knew right away that Mark & I were the perfect fit for her and Zak. The only challenge on their wedding day was seeing that everything got done because everyone was having so much fun, it was hard to focus on the task at hand. That’s a good problem to have : ) Here’s a look at their gorgeous Steamboat wedding…
While I was photographing details around Sarah’s cabin, I could hear Mark and the guys cackling non-stop. Now I see why:
Sarah’s first look with her dad:
A quick toast before walking down the aisle. Love this moment:
This shot was a great idea that one of Sarah’s bridesmaids had. (Thanks Kate!) Luckily Mark is good with an ax and nailed it the first try, I imagine I would have put it right thru their names : )
Ear 2 Ear’s gondola Photo Booth set up outside Perry Mansfield beneath the full moon. Such a perfect night!
Stop and look at these four photos for a second. This was the happiest, most joyous father/daughter and mother/son dances we’ve ever seen. Props to these four for throwing caution to the wind and loving every second of this moment.
How would you describe your wedding day?
S: Our wedding day couldn’t have been any better. It was a warm, beautiful fall day that was perfect from start to finish….at least that’s what I remember!
Z: Our wedding day was perfect. Between the weather and the tree colors we couldn’t have had a better day.
What was your favorite part of the day?
S: Seeing Zak’s face with our first look and also my dad’s first look. All I remember about the ceremony was Zak, Burny our officiant and I with leaves falling around us… that was pretty special.
Z: My favorite part of the day was seeing Sarah for the first time in her dress. It was really amazing to see her on my own first, it made my day and I still think about it quite often. But I’m sappy like that.
Are you glad you decided to see each other prior to the ceremony? Why?
S: I am glad we saw each other before. I think there is so much emotion in that moment and having a second to ourselves before everything was nice. I think it would have been overwhelming with everything else going on if we hadn’t. Also what would we have done with our time before the ceremony?! It was nice being able to do photos and have the wedding party all hang out together!
Z: It was nice seeing each other before because we got to experience it with just the two of us first. It also made the rest of the morning fun because we could spend time together waiting for the wedding.
What was the best part about marrying in the mountains?
S: I feel most at home in the mountains and always have, to share one of the best days of our lives in that environment made the most sense! It’s a quiet and gorgeous setting.
Z: We both love the mountains and spend a lot of time in them so it seemed natural for us. We got really lucky with the weather and knew that it doesn’t always work out but it did. Standing in an aspen grove while falling leafs were landing on and around us was unbelievable also.
What do you know now that you wish you had known before your wedding?
S: I had always known it….hire a wedding planner! They are a life saver! I would say plan for more time than you expect to get ready. For a girl who takes 10 minutes to get ready for the day normally, I underestimated the amount of time for hair and makeup.
Z: I guess just how fast it goes. It seemed to just go by in a second.
If you could do it all over again, would you do anything differently?
S: I would perhaps have audio recorded of the ceremony. I had no idea what our officiant had planned to say and it was so special to hear that having that would be nice.
Z: I don’t think so I thought everything went great, I wouldn’t have changed anything.
Any advice for couples planning their mountain weddings?
S: Be prepared…..the weather is always changing. We knew to expect snow, wind, rain, or sun and lucked out with perfect temps, moon rise, weather, etc! Don’t worry about the small stuff… you won’t remember the small details you thought were so important when planning. Most of all… try to drink every second in. Everyone tells you how fast the day goes but you really can’t even grasp it until it’s happening. Remember to take every moment you can with your special someone and try to make sure you say hello and thank you at least once to each guest.
Z: Well a good wedding planner worked wonders. Having two photographers who knew what they were doing was great and all of the pictures turned out wonderful. Remember that it’s supposed to be a fun day for you and your wife. Relax and enjoy it that’s what mountains are for.
