Last year I decided I wanted to set a fitness goal that would keep me motivated all year long.  I decided I would try to log 1,000 miles in 2015, whether it be by running, walking, biking, paddleboarding, or any mode of human-powered transportation.  And I’m not talking about accumulating mileage throughout the day with how many steps I take but deliberate exercise sessions every single day.  1,000 miles in a year breaks down to 2.74 miles a day which I thought was totally doable.  The goal led me to one of my most active summers ever, biking/hiking or running nearly every day.  Then, come October, my body had other plans.  My goal was completely derailed when I was sidelined with a rare health condition that left me unable to do any kind of exercise for nearly four months.  So here we are…two surgeries and four months later and I am finally able to get back out there!  I cannot emphasize just how happy this make me, I live for being active and outdoors.  I’ve had to start slow, while my heart may be ready to run a marathon, my body is only ready for a few miles of walking.  However, a two mile walk with my dogs has never been so wonderful.  I don’t know that I’ll be able to reach 1,000 miles this year but I’m going to try!  One mile and one day at a time.  I logged 33.7 miles in February which might not seem like much but it’s 33.7 miles more than I did in all of November, December & January.  I’m getting better everyday and can’t wait to see how much more I can do in March!   Hopefully it starts tomorrow with my first snowshoe of the year : )
