In 1989 I was the kid that answered enthusiastically “a photographer!” to the age old question “What do you want to be when you grow up?”. That holiday season I was trying to figure out what to make my parents for Christmas when it came to me. I’ll take professional photos of my little brother! I drew my inspiration from the C&R Clothiers commercials I often saw on TV. They went something like this. A hard-working, blue-collar man, on the job, sweaty, tired, dirty. That was the before shot. Then it would show the same man, clean, dapper and ready for a night on the town in his C&R Clothiers suit. The craziest part of it all is that it’s 23 years later and I’m exactly what I always said I would be. Pretty cool.

We went on hikes, scenic drives, did tons of “faux camping”, took tons and tons of photos and just generally enjoyed it while it lasted. Good thing too because now it’s January it’s freezing outside! Some of the shots we took…

You know how certain days of your life are so monumental that they will be ingrained in your memory until the day you die? Yesterday was one of those days. Growing up I’ll never forget the framed cut up shirt that hung in my dad’s office. It was from the day he soloed on his way to becoming the pilot I had always known him to be. Unlike most kids, my family never went on road trips, we went on flying trips. To this day, my dad still owns the Bonanza that I grew up in. It’s a part of our family and flying is a part of who I am. Continue reading ‘Flying Solo’
