The beginning of April took us to Devil’s Thumb Ranch for Annie & Brad’s, spring-disguised-as-winter, wedding. I’m not sure we’ve ever had the pleasure of working with anyone more kind than Annie & Brad. Their love and kindness made for the most joyful day, one that we are so thrilled we got to be a part of. Devil’s Thumb Ranch was a winter wonderland that day, a perfect day to wed in the mountains. Here is a peek at Annie & Brad’s Colorado wedding…
In one sentence, how would you describe your wedding day?
Brad: “The BEST party we will ever have!”
Annie: “A romantic evening in the mountains surrounded by our closest family and friends.”
What was your favorite part of the day?
Brad: “When she turned the corner and walked down the aisle. I was excited it was time to marry my best friend.”
Annie: “The words… You may kiss the bride! Best butterflies in the world because I was officially going to be Mrs. Gordon. Bustin’ a move on the dance floor was a close second!”
What was the best part about marrying in the mountains?
Brad: “Our wedding was not just a one day event. Since it was a destination wedding for most of our guests, we were able to spend the whole weekend celebrating with one another! It allowed us to create more memories than just one night.”
Annie: “The mountains are a very spiritual place to both of us. There is something spectacular about being surrounded by such beauty that God created. When we first moved to Colorado, Bradley proposed to me on top of a mountain, so this place will forever remain special to both of us!”
What do you know now that you wish you had known before your wedding?
Brad: “Don’t sweat the small stuff. Your guests will not notice anyways. It will be perfect no matter what. Keep in mind the main reason everyone is there is to witness a marriage between two people in love. Nothing else matters in the end.”
Annie: “Time goes by in a blink of an eye! Embrace every moment as it is happening. Each memory will last a lifetime.”
If you could do it all over again, would you do anything differently?
Brad: “Eat faster! If we would have known the night would fly by as quick as it did, we would have made sure to visit each table during dinner. By the time we finished our meals, we were swept away for cake cutting and first dances.”
Annie: “The end of the night is when everyone tends to let loose and have the time of their lives. I wish we would have saved more money to have the photographer and videographer stay later in the evening to capture this excitement.”
Any advice for couples planning their mountain weddings?
Brad: “Be aware of the affects of the altitude on those who do not live in Colorado. Make sure each guest drinks plenty of water, uses sunscreen, and brings Chapstick.”
Annie: “Since most guests will have to travel quite a distance to a mountain location, try to give them suggestions for transportation and lodging. Be upfront and honest with your guests that it will be similar and as expensive as planning a vacation. Giving them extra time to save the date will help them decide if it is a realistic option for them to attend. With that said, allow them to make part of it their vacation by giving them ideas of mountain activities available. Further, make sure they are aware that temperatures can differ greatly from the city, so they should plan accordingly. Remember getting married in the mountains also affects vendors. You may need to pay extra for them to travel to that location. Lastly, you can keep your wedding simple because beauty will be surrounding you!
