Mountain photographers for happy couples who love life, each other and the great outdoors as much as we do.

All the latest…

Chasing big dreams and ringing in a new era!

We have some incredibly exciting news to share!  After a year of blood, sweat and tears, we’re finally bringing to fruition one our most ambitious dreams yet!  That dream being to make aviation a much greater part of our lives.  Mark was offered the most incredible job, an opportunity so perfect I cried the moment he told me.  He’s recently begun working as an aviation mechanic in Idaho for the most phenomenal company and will soon become a flight instructor.  The aviation community holds a special place in both our hearts, but for Mark it’s his calling…just as photography is mine.  We’re now going to be splitting our time between Colorado and Idaho, a dream in itself for this wandering spirit of mine.  This summer will be Mark’s last season photographing weddings.  We had a damn good run as business partners for the last 14 years but if there’s anything I truly love in life, it’s changing things up and seeing where new opportunities might lead!

Mark’s new gig started last week with helping relocate two planes from San Francisco to Phoenix to Idaho.

What does that mean for the future of IN Photography?

Well…not a whole lot will change actually!  For the last couple of years we’ve been working on phasing Mark out of the business.  He knew he was ready to pursue another career and so we needed to begin freeing up his time in order to act on any possible opportunities.  While Mark will still be shooting alongside me this summer, that is the last aspect of the business that he has yet to step away from.  Starting next year, this little business that we’ve taken from childhood dream to thriving career over the course of the last 14 years will be all mine.  I feel beyond blessed that not only do I get to keep this business going, but I have a renewed sense of excitement to make it better than it’s ever been.  This year I’ll begin the search for the perfect photographer to join me for the 2019 season.  With that, as well as the experience I have from photographing close to 400 weddings over the years,  I plan on continuing to deliver the same product and experience that IN always has.

The most wonderful aspect of this change, and why I see this business just getting better, is that for the first time ever we’ll be a dual-income family.  With that, I aim to commission around 14 Colorado weddings rather than 25-30.  This opportunity giving me more time to deliver the absolute best experience for my couples that I can.

Will I keep shooting weddings in Colorado?

YES!  While Mark’s job will primarily take place in Idaho, we’ll be splitting our time between Colorado and Idaho with the bulk of the summer being spent in Colorado.  I may not be a skier, I may hate the cold but if there is one thing I am truly, deeply, madly in love with (besides my husband) it’s summer in Colorado.

Summer + Colorado + photography + weddings = my bliss.

Bookings for the 2019 season have already begun and I cannot wait to meet the 14 couples whose love stories I’ll have the honor of documenting next summer.  Until then…stay tuned for all the beauty that’s about to unfold this season!  It all starts in two weeks!!!

Flying Diamond Ranch Wedding Photos: Kathryn & Ryan

Flying Diamond Ranch is one of those quintessential Colorado wedding venues.  From towering aspen groves to sprawling meadows and panoramic views of the Yampa Valley, this Steamboat Springs ranch has it all and is a photographer’s dream.  We could not have been more excited for our first wedding at this new venue.  Kathryn & Ryan first exchanged vows in downtown Steamboat at Holy Name Catholic Church.  Following their ceremony was a picture-perfect reception and celebration at Flying Diamond.  Here’s a peek at Kathryn & Ryan’s drop-dead gorgeous summer wedding in Steamboat…

2017 Highlights: Colorado Weddings

This is it, the final post of 2017!  Trust me when I say, I’ve saved the best for last.  What you’re about to see are over 200 of some of my favorite photos from the 2017 Colorado wedding season.  200 may seem like a lot but with a selection of over 15,000 photos to choose from, it was the best I could do!  I honestly don’t think I’d wrapped my head around all the beauty of this year until prepping this post and looking thru all 27 weddings side by side.  WOW.  I’m practically speechless for what an incredible year it was.  When I look thru these photos I’m overwhelmed with gratitude for our amazing clients, all our vendor friends and the many spectacular venues that now, 13 years in to this career, feel like second homes to us.

What you’re about to see is a perfect representation of the work we strive to deliver to each and every one of our couples.  A blend of beautiful portraits, heart-warming candids and gorgeous details.  A collection of photographs to bring our clients joy for a lifetime.  Here’s a glimpse at our year in weddings!  (oh…and be sure to check out the Black & White highlights here…I love b&w so much, I couldn’t help but do a separate post)

2017 Highlights: Colorado Weddings | Black & White

Black & white photography holds a special place in my heart.  Maybe it’s because I love that it strips a photograph of all distractions and takes you straight to the heart of the emotions captured.  Maybe it’s because it makes me nostalgic for the days I’d lock myself away in the tiny bathroom turned darkroom of my first apartment, developing black & white photos.  Either way, I love the classic, ageless look of a black & white photograph.  Not every photo is meant to be black & white, but the ones that are, I can’t imagine them any other way.  So without further ado, check out my favorite post of the year:  The Year in Weddings, a few of my favorite black & white photos from 2017…

Sapphire Point Elopement: Amanda & Randall

Weather in the middle of October can bring anything in the Colorado Rockies.  When Amanda told me she was excited for the beauty of the fall color (they were coming from Texas), I had to break the news that the fall color would be long gone and the mountains would likely be covered in fresh snow.  Oh, and also that it would be cold, quite cold for Texans.  Yet, October 18th rolled around and we were gifted with one of those rare sunny, sixty degree October days.  In other words, it could not have been more perfect.  Amanda & Randall exchanged vows at Sapphire Point overlooking Lake Dillon and the Ten Mile range, reminding me, yet again, that elopements are the bees knees.  I can’t think of a better way to spend a Wednesday afternoon.  Here are just a few of my favorite photos from our hour together that gorgeous afternoon!

Caroline & Nick’s Timber Ridge Wedding

They met 10 years ago in high school in the Midwest.  Their journey eventually led them to building a life in Colorado and consequently exchanging vows on the top of a mountain deep in the Colorado wilderness.  These mountains have a wonderful way of turning up the volume on our love stories.  Of causing us to look back and think “would you ever have imagined 10 years ago we’d be standing on a mountaintop getting married?”  I believe this is what Caroline & Nick said to each other at some point as they reflected on the decade that led them to this mountain.  It all led to the most perfect day, in the most magical location surrounded by all their favorite people.  Congratulations to Caroline & Nick!

Here’s a peek at their Keystone wedding at Timber Ridge this past July…

Ten Mile Station Wedding: Shannon & Steve

So many of our couples have met on the internet via sites like Match.com.  It’s pretty awesome that thru technology it’s entirely possible to find “the one” without necessarily having to go to the bar and hoping for the best.  However, every now and then we hear about a good old-fashioned story of two universes colliding and it warms my heart to know that fate still has it’s ways.

Enter Shannon & Steve.  They are truly a match made in heaven and fate wouldn’t have it any other way.  When getting to know them, Shannon told me that on her first day in Denver she nearly ran over Steve when pulling in to a parking lot and the rest was history.

I couldn’t be more thrilled that somewhere along their path they found Mark & I and we got to be the ones to document their love story.  On a gorgeous day in July, they wed at Ten Mile Station in Breckenridge, our home away from home.  Here’s a peek at a few of our favorite moments…

Vendors We Love: Cinepro Studios Wedding Cinematography

In September, when we pulled up to Jen & Josh’s Vail wedding and saw Dusty from Cinepro Studios get out of the car in front of us, I was ecstatic.  You see, not all videographers are created equal.  Just like photographers, they all have a different style, a different approach to their work.  Since video and photo are such closely related mediums, it’s so vital that we’re all able to work together seamlessly.  Mark & I are all about letting the beautiful moments of a wedding unfold organically, but if a videographer is standing next to us orchestrating and staging every moment, it becomes challenging to capture genuine moments.

So when couples hire like-minded videographers that are as easy-going as they are talented, I want to be sure everyone knows about them!  In my inbox this morning was an e-mail from Dusty with a link to Jen & Josh’s highlight reel.  We NEVER get to see these because we never think to ask.  Not only was Dusty thoughtful enough to send it over but it was the perfect excuse for me to tell you guys about him.

If you’re looking for the perfect videographer for your wedding, I can’t recommend Dusty enough.  Check out this gorgeous video from Jen & Josh’s wedding and then give him a shout!

Vendors We Love: Wedding Painter Julia Dordoni

Colorado has some of the most picturesque wedding locations you could ever dream of.  From mountain tops to aspen groves, the settings of our favorite wedding venues are so dreamy, they feel as though you’ve just stepped in to a postcard.  So when we arrived at Leslie & Dan’s wedding at Flying Diamond Ranch in Steamboat and saw that they’d commissioned an artist to create a painting of the setting, I thought it was absolutely brilliant.  Not to mention, just the sight of a painter at work added to the ambiance of the fairytale setting as guests arrived.

We watched Julia work throughout the day and her finished piece was stunning.  So much so that I’m hoping to get to see her at work again in the future as I’d love to see some of our other favorite wedding venues depicted in her art!

Breckenridge Nordic Center Wedding: Courtney & Anthony

Mid-July took us to a new wedding venue in Breckenridge that we immediately fell in love with.  The Breckenridge Nordic Center is located at the base of Peak 8 and is a little slice of heaven in the heart of Breck.  We spent the first part of the day hitting up some gorgeous spots around town for photos with Courtney & Anthony before starting the celebration at the Nordic Center.  A huge thanks to the Nordic Center for being such an awesome host and to Courtney & Anthony for choosing us to document their incredible day!

Last Wednesday, as many of you know, a wildfire broke out a few short miles from the town of Breckenridge.  450 homes were evacuated and the entire town was under a pre-evacuation notice.  As I drove to the grocery store on Thursday and lay eyes on the plume of smoke that loomed in the background of Frisco, my heart sank.  I was worried for the town and as for the two weddings we had coming up on Saturday and Sunday in Breckenridge, I wasn’t feeling good about the possibility of those venues not being accessible.  Well, thanks to the men and women that are willing to literally throw themselves in to the line of fire as well as a little help from Mother Nature, things took a major turn for the better come Saturday.  As we documented the celebration of two fabulous couples this weekend, I basked in the fact that the sky was blue and clear of smoke and the threat of destruction had passed.  As I begin editing away at these two days that I’ll remember fondly, I couldn’t help but share a little preview : )

A big congratulations to Courtney & Anthony and Shannon & Steve!

What our clients are saying…

Thank you!  Thank you!  Thank you!  We knew when we met you that you were the ones for the job but you have exceeded our expectations by a long shot.  Our photos are amazing and you were both such a pleasure to work with.  Both Todd & I keep saying “Where were they?”.  The candid shots are incredible and the details you thought to capture absolutely rock!  I don’t know what else to say but awesome job.  We enjoyed you both so much!  We hope to see you soon again next time we are in Breck!

Jen

Thank you so much for these amazing photographs and for making the whole photography process so easy!   How you manage to take such beautiful photos in the speed that you do baffles me!  Taking the bridal party and family photos did not keep us away from the party at all.  We have never been happier and the pictures show it.  I feel like you really captured who we are as a couple and as individuals.  It was so easy to be ourselves around you.  Thank you for being a part of it and providing the photographs that allow us to relive it for the rest of our lives!

Erin

Thank you thank you thank you!!! We are absolutely thrilled with the photos. They are exactly what I’d always hoped for and perfectly captured all the events, people and emotions of our day.  Just looking at some of the ceremony ones makes my eyes well up with tears all over again every time I look at them, which is often.  The groomsmen photos are really some of the best pictures of a group of guys I’ve ever seen. Plus we had such a blast hanging out with you and Mark all afternoon! I would recommend you both to all my friends. Thank you for capturing our special day so perfectly.
