Frequently Asked Questions
Do we get all the rights to our photos?
Every package includes the delivery of high-resolution JPEG files on USB flash drive two weeks following your wedding. These digital negatives include reproduction and sharing rights. You may do whatever you like with your photos. We hold the copyright which allows us to maintain a copy of your photos to use on our website and for promotional purposes to book future clients.
When will our photos be ready?
Your online gallery will be ready and your USB flash drive will ship two weeks following your wedding.
Do we get any black & white photos?
Every image in your final wedding image collection is hand-touched to look its very best including adjustments to exposure, contrast, color temperature, etc. At this time we will decide if a photograph looks best in color or black & white. Your final collection will have a mix of both color and black & white photographs. If you really like or dislike black & white photography, let us know and we’ll gladly make a note of it.
Are there travel fees?
We are conveniently located approximately one hour or less from Keystone, Breckenridge, Vail, Beaver Creek, Steamboat Springs, Winter Park, Copper Mountain and A-basin and do not charge any travel fees to these destinations.
Per Diem (meals, lodging, fuel) is an all-inclusive $200 per night for locations more than 90 minutes from our house. Whether we require a one or two night stay depends on your wedding location. Colorado Springs, Boulder and Estes Park require one night stays. Aspen, Telluride and Crested Butte require two night stays.
How far in advance do we need to book?
We book as far as 18 months in advance and as close to 2 months in advance. Weddings are booked on a first come, first-served basis.
What do you need to reserve my date?
Wedding commissions are accepted on a first come, first served basis. A signed contract and non-refundable retainer is required to reserve your date.
You have your choice of the following payment structures:
- Two payments: Pay 50% of your package when you book with the remaining 50% due two weeks prior to your wedding.
- Four payments: Pay 25% of your package when you book with the three remaining payments divided evenly between now and your wedding.
We accept checks, Visa and Mastercard.
What happens if you get sick?
We’re part of a large community of photographers that we can call on in the event of an emergency. We take the fact that we cannot call in sick very seriously and in over 200 weddings there has only been one instance where Mark could not be present due to a family emergency.
Should we do a First Look?
It’s becoming increasingly popular for Brides & Grooms to see each other in what is called a “First Look” prior to the ceremony. We believe this is a very personal decision that should be made by you and only you. If you’re looking for a little advice about doing a First Look, here is what we suggest:
If portraits (bridal party, family and Bride & Groom portraits) and enjoying cocktail hour are equally important to you, a First Look is a great option. This allows us to complete 90% of your formal photographs prior to the ceremony, allowing you time to enjoy most of your cocktail hour with friends and family. Doing a First Look also facilitates a more relaxed atmosphere for portraits since we have a little extra time to work with.
Keep in mind, during the winter the days are much shorter. If it’s going to be dark after your ceremony (it gets dark as early as 4:30pm in the mountains during the winter), than a First Look is a great way to take advantage of the daylight and complete all your portraits while it’s still light out.
How far will you travel for my engagement portrait session?
We will travel up to one hour from our house for engagement portrait sessions. This includes Breckenridge, Keystone, Vail, Beaver Creek, Steamboat Springs and Winter Park.
Aspen, Boulder and Denver area sessions require an additional fee of $150.
What's your style?
We don’t believe our style can be summed up in one or two words. A photojournalist will primarily provide you with candids and will not offer any direction while an editorial photographer will be very involved the entire day staging and arranging every photo. We believe we fall somewhere in the middle.
The style of our work is a direct result of the style of how we work. We want your experience with us to be fun, relaxed and unobtrusive. The result is a comprehensive collection of photographs with three primary components:
1. Relaxed, beautiful portraits. We’ll give you enough direction to make you feel comfortable but not so much that you feel stiff and staged. We want to capture the best, most beautiful version of you.
2. Moments. Weddings are comprised of hundreds of wonderful, emotional, once-in-a-lifetime moments. Once we’ve completed your portraits, we’re a fly on the wall. We aim to quietly capture these moments in the most unobtrusive way possible. We’re fast and efficient and will never ask you to stage or recreate anything. Your wedding is a real life event, not a movie set. We’re there to tell your story not stage it.
3. Details. Whether it’s all the personal details from your grandmother’s handkerchief to your unique table names or all the elements of the surroundings-the trees, mountain vistas or deer grazing in a nearby meadow-the details are what make your wedding day uniquely yours.
If you’re solely looking to have your Pinterest boards recreated or get published on Style Me Pretty, we’re probably not the right fit. If you’re looking for a photographer that can capture the beauty and love you feel on the best day of your life along with moments that will bring you joy for a lifetime all while making the process fun and effortless then we’re probably the perfect fit!
What sets you apart from other photographers?
We are a husband and wife team, both with formal photography training (one of us isn’t tagging along for the fun of it). Whether it’s two different perspectives or the ability to be in two different places at once, we believe two photographers are always better than one. With 11 years experience and being based in the mountains we understand the unique lighting, logistics and weather conditions that are found in the mountains. We pride ourselves on our ability to create beautiful photos any day, any time, anywhere.
In addition, we understand that a wedding is comprised of many moving parts and we’re not the only professionals trying to get a job done. We work seamlessly side by side with every vendor to see that your day is flawless. Our fast, efficient process sees that we can create our very best work while letting everyone else do their jobs also. We’re not going to tell the chef that dinner has to wait because we’re not done yet (yes, we hear from chefs that this happens all the time).
Our expertise allows us to facilitate a fun and effortless photography experience. We only require one thing to create remarkable photographs…happy people.
Our #1 priority is to give you extraordinary photographs to enjoy for a lifetime.
Next is to create a flawless experience from the day you choose us as your photographer to the day we deliver your photographs.
